The Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders honored two public officials and 10 department directors as part of a "Women's History Month" celebration preceding its last meeting in March.

Freeholder Chairman Thomas Liggio, citing this year's Women's History Month theme of "Generations of Women Moving History Forward," cited the 12 honorees as perfect examples of the celebration's theme.

"These women have not only provided leadership and innovation in their duties on behalf of the county," said Liggio, "but they are also an example that qualified women can and do succeed in government in administrative positions. On behalf of all the freeholder board, I say that we are happy to be a part of the wonderful diversity that comprises county government."

The honorees, who all received proclamations, are Hudson County Register Willie Flood; Hudson County Freeholder Doreen DiDomenico; Superintendent of Elections Marie Borace; High Tech High School Principal Carol Brancato; Acting Hudson County Clerk Mary Jane Desmond; and Director of County Welfare Angel Harrison.

Also, Director of Community Development Susan Mearns; Principal of County Prep Barbara Mendolla; Director of the Office of Constituent Services Francine Shelton; Director of Hudson County Economic Development Corporation Elizabeth Spinelli; Director of Office of Minority and Women Business Enterprise Frances Thompson; and Director of the Department of Health and Human Services Carol Ann Wilson.
