My name is Alberto Cabrera, and I am running for District Seven Freeholder, encompassing Weehawken, West New York and Guttenberg. I have been a resident of Weehawken for well over 35 years and met my lovely wife Pura while attending Weehawken High School. We fell in love with the community and decided to invest in Weehawken and raise our family here.
Now, I simply ask you to evaluate me for the services I have rendered to the Township of Weehawken during the past 15 years. Some of those include:
· Planning Board Member for 10 years, including three as the Acting Chairman for Waterfront Development. Oversaw the area's redevelopment and helped bring millions in ratables to Weehawken.
· Current Zoning Board of Adjustment Chairman for the past eight years. We have successfully been able to convert many older industrial sites into useful new development, such as The Reiner Building on Gregory Ave. The board has also converted numerous old gas stations into open space and additional parking for local residents. The 15- acre recreational and passive park currently being built on the waterfront is another project we have managed.
· As a Board of Education Trustee, I have worked hard to maintain the quality of education that taxpayers have come to expect. We have secured the necessary federal funds to comply with the American Disability Act (ADA) in each of our schools. We have updated the computer labs in all of our schools and recently installed new hardwood floors at Weehawken High School and a state of the art sound system at both the high school and Webster Elementary School. The high school's auditorium has even been refurbished, complete with central air conditioning. We continue to give our administrators and faculty all the resources necessary to challenge and educate our children, so they may compete with the rest of the world.
· Perhaps I may have coached your son or daughter as a volunteer baseball coach in our recreational programs for many years.
Whatever the experience may have been, it was simply done out of love for our community and children. If I have earned your trust in the past 15 years, then I hope to have earned your vote on June 5th as your next Freeholder for the Seventh District. Please join me with a vote for Column A.
