Mile Square Theatre hosted its 5th Annual "7th Inning Stretch: 7 10-minute plays about baseball" this past Saturday at the DeBaun Auditorium. The "Stretch" is our annual fundraiser, and despite the busy weekend of weddings, graduations, and Father's Day celebrations, well over 200 people came out to see seven premieres of baseball plays by some of America's best playwrights and to show support of our goal to establish a resident regional Equity theatre here in Hoboken. This year's "Stretch" was sponsored by local businesses and individuals who, by their generous donations, recognize the value we have to the cultural landscape of our wonderful city. I want to thank all the playwrights, actors, and theatre artists who participated in this year's event, the theatre-goers who attended, and the following sponsors; Applied Development, The Burgiss Group, Corporate Realty, Elsewares, The Elysian Café, Fields Development, Haven Savings Bank, Hoboken Brownstone, Paula Ohaus, and Frank "Pupie" Raia. I invite all readers to join us the last two weeks of July at Sinatra Park when we present our production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," in partnership with Mayor Dave Roberts and the City of Hoboken. "Midsummer" is sponsored by PSEG and the Provident Bank Foundation and is free to the public. Come see the exciting theatre that our audiences and sponsors are supporting.
