To all of you who have lost a loved one on September 11, 2001 my deepest sympathy to you. The memorial to honor your loved one was a wonderful idea. It is unfortunate that the City's 911 Memorial Committee cannot seem to do the right thing.
Concerning the memorial itself, I don't understand why, and I am angered that the City's 911 Memorial Committee would have ever conceived of their names being placed on the memorial. The memorial is for the victims and their families. This is not an opportunity for the committee to seek credit for its efforts. To the committee, do you have any sense of decency in this horrible matter?
Now Mr. John Guarini, if you had any issues with Mr. Burns, the memorial's creator, you should have dealt with them in a private manner, not letting the issues become public since the families already have enough to deal with. In addition, just as an artist puts his name to a painting, Mr. Burns certainly should have been entitled to have his name on the memorial since he created it! He's the artist, and it is wrong to have his name removed from "his" work.
As for Mayor Healy, where have you been when all of this has been going on? You say the committee is free to do what it wishes because the monument is privately funded, but John Guarini came to you when he claimed the memorial was missing. He wanted to press charges against city officials but dropped those charges after speaking with you.
This whole situation was and still is being handled with such disrespect to the victims and their families by Mr. Guarini, the 911 Memorial Committee and the City of Jersey City.
