Peter Cammarano's letter to the editor was misleading and deceptive of the Open Space Initiative recently approved by the City Council. The Council were not voting for new taxes, they were voting to give people the choice to publicly fund the acquisition of badly needed open space. Anyone living in Hoboken can see that the parks currently available are overused and inadequate for our growing population.
Anyone living in Hoboken in recent years can also see that the remaining land available for making parks and open space is quickly being gobbled up by developers. For a mere $20 per 100 thousand of assessed value we may be able to salvage some portion of what little space is left for our children, and future generations. I encourage every citizen to vote for this initiative so we don't continually have to go to developers hat in hand with the hope that they will leave some small token amount. I question how anyone, especially City Councilpersons like Mr. Cammarano, can be against increasing park space in Hoboken.
