Being a long suffering taxpayer in Union City, I wanted to take this opportunity to comment on this year's significant increase in our local property tax rate. What happened to the well-repeated comments of our current mayor that all the massive development projects in our community would begin to stabilize our local property tax rate?
How many more property owners in Union City have to go into foreclosure before our local state legislator finally takes a sincere interest in this devastating situation?
If you attend a local Union City Commission meeting one can observe Revenue and Finance Commissioner Martinelli attired in an expensive designer maternity outfit, while at the same time totally unable to answer any inquiries whatsoever in reference to any aspect of our local municipal budget.
It shouldn't be too much to simply ask for basic and decent accountability in reference to the dire fiscal situation many of us currently face in these extremely difficult and expensive times.
