Local developers Eric and Paul Silverman of Jersey City-based Exeter Property Company organized the Cinco de Mayo Parade and Fiesta, which is usually held in front of buildings they own, the Bar Majestic and the Merchant Restaurant on Grove Street.The event started with a two-block parade that included Mayor Jerramiah Healy and the Dickinson High School marching band as well as various city officials, live music from a DJ, and a performance by the rock band the Milwaukees.
There was food provided by several vendors including Taqueria Downtown, and of course, plenty of Coronas and tequila.
And what would the celebration be without the lovely Cinco De Mayo Girls?
Also honored during the event were Jersey City Councilman Steve Lipski, Hudson County Sheriff Juan M. Perez, Anthony Catanio, Susan DeLeva, Vanessa Dominguez-Czaplicki, George L. Garcia Esq., Kim Jeblick, Maryanne Kelleher-Arango, and Joseph Kealy Esq.
The Silverman brothers have developed a number of residential projects in Jersey City in the past 20 years such as Schroeder Lofts on 10th Street and the Majestic Theatre Condominiums on Montgomery Street (at the site of the former Majestic Theater). They are currently developing the Hamilton Square project on McWilliams Place overlooking Hamilton Park.
Explaining why he and his brother have been hosting this event since 2006, Paul Silverman said, "To re-energize the neighborhood, to give them a reason to enjoy Downtown Jersey City ...
