Disgusted and disappointed

Dear Editor:

It was with disgust and disappointment that I read Freeholder candidate Frank Raia's tasteless and self-serving "thank you" letter in the June 8th issue.

If nothing else, he has perfected the art of spinning lies, contradictions and misstatements of fact. He states his opponent "edged him out with the support of entrenched career politicians in Jersey City" while failing to acknowledge that his Hoboken vote came with the support of the entrenched Russo family, a group of career politicians. Another one of his supporters, who voiced his support for Raia publicly in your newspaper, was recently indicted for automobile insurance fraud.

He claims that the voters made it clear that "Mayor Brian Stack of Union City is not the boss of Hoboken" but claims that his opponent is the hand-picked candidate of Hoboken Mayor David Roberts. You can't have it both ways, Frank.

As for his intended denigration of Mayor Roberts, he obviously forgets that it was with the support of Mayor Roberts that he won his first elected office running for the school board after five or six unsuccessful attempts at other offices. So much for gratitude, which Frank evidently lacks.

Demonstrating that he's a sore loser, Raia attacks the winning candidate, Democratic candidate Capt. Anthony Romano. I wish Capt. Romano good luck in November. He has always served the community of Hoboken with integrity, sincerity and an agenda that represents the residents. We know he'll do us proud.

As for Mr. Raia, I believe he ran for office eight times and lost at least six times. If nothing else, it proves that the voters of Hoboken and Jersey City are more intelligent than he thinks.

Frustrated Hobokenite
