Dear Editor:

"Laisser le Bon Rouleau de Temps," the French phrase, "Let the Good Times Roll," often heard down in New Orleans the week before Lent, was a welcome phrase up here too, as the Jersey City Free Public Library Foundation, Inc. held its annual September fundraiser on Friday, September 19th at P.J. Ryan's this year with a Mardi Gras theme.

On behalf of the Library Board of Trustees of the Jersey City Free Public Library, we would like to thank the Library Foundation Board of Trustees for their 4th annual very successful fundraiser at P.J. Ryan's. And did we 'let the good times roll'!

Maybe it was the theme of Mardi Gras, but there was a more relaxed atmosphere, a difference in the dancing (constant movement) that made for more fun throughout the evening. Cajun fare and jazz during dinner hour, plus the many strands of purple (justice), green (faith) and gold (power) beads and other decorations produced that Mardi Gras gumbo flavor.

The Library Board of Trustees especially thanks Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy, Councilman At Large Peter Brennan and Freeholder Jeff Dublin, who always support our fundraisers and other library functions. Without the DJ there wouldn't have been that nonstop dancing, and we are grateful for his contribution. Also, special thanks go to Mike Ryan and Peter Dineen, co-owners of P.J. Ryan's, their staff and the staff of Fire Code, for creating that Mardi Gras atmosphere and event.

Much gratitude goes to Library Director and Foundation Executive Director Priscilla Gardner, Library Foundation Treasurer Michael Ryan and the rest of the Trustee Board of the Jersey City Free Public Library Foundation, Inc. - Kevin J. Ward, Chairman; Morris Winograd, Vice Chairman; Bette Spinelli, Recording Secretary; Joseph Panepinto Jr., Corresponding Secretary; Joseph A. Turula; Kathleen Hartye; Samantha Newman-Webster; and Robert Burke - for their efforts.

We thank Kevin Ward on his three-plus years of service as Library Foundation Board chairman, and wish him and his family well on their relocation to South Carolina on his retirement. And the Jersey City Free Public Library Board of Trustees welcomes Michael Ryan, who will serve as the new chairman of the Library Foundation, with Joseph Panepinto Jr. assuming new duties as treasurer.

We thank all the individuals, organizations, businesses and public officials that have supported the Library Foundation as it embarks on a new capital improvement endeavor. All proceeds from this, and our future fundraisers held by the Jersey City Free Public Library Foundation, benefit the second major fundraising campaign - to fund security cameras for the Main Library and all 11 branches.

See you at the next library foundation fundraiser in 2009!

Sincerely,
James K. Morley
President, Board of Trustees
