To the Editor:

Another year and it seems like nothing has changed in Hudson County politics. Any time I read an article containing an interview with a candidate or read a letter to the editor from a candidate, all I see is constant criticism of the administration while no legitimate solid solution is presented by these so called candidates.

Another thing I noticed that is reminiscent of Hudson County politics is candidates making false promises. There are certain candidates who claim they want to lower taxes but also get the teachers their raise. I agree that the teachers do deserve a contract and a raise for the work that they put in, but lowering taxes is not a feasible way to do this. Taxes pay the salaries of our respected teachers; so my question to the candidate who keeps promising to lower taxes but pay the teachers is this, how do you plan to possibly make this happen?

I plan on proposing a realistic solution to the city. I believe the city should freeze all city departments so that all of the finances and books can be looked at line by line. In doing this we can find and eliminate all unnecessary finances and then put those finances to necessary city use.

RICHARD McCARTHY

First Ward Council Candidate
