Funeral services took place Jan. 24 at Salem Baptist Church, Jersey City, for Alice R. Davis She passed away surrounded by her family on Jan. 17. Born in Rosehill, N.C., she resided in Jersey City most of her life with her late husband Fred B. Davis. A member of Salem Baptist Church for over 60 years, she was to her work on the Usher Board and was always available to help with all church activities. She was a founding member of the Jersey City Red Hats Organization. Alice will be remembered for her cakes and pies and her and giving nature. She is survived by her children; Gwendolyn, Janet and her husband Ronald Dukes, Monica, Donald Sr. and wife Bernice; grandchildren Jordan, Donald Jr. and Nicole, siblings Bernice (Willie Mae), Lee Robinson and Mary V. Dawkins and her late brother James; also special mother-in-law Dr. Hazel Dukes. A host of nieces, nephews and cousin and friends; also her furry children, Rosie and Sam. Alice worked as a seamstress, a visiting homemaker and on the first maintenance crew at Newport Centre Mall. Services arranged by the Watson Mortuary Service, Jersey City.
