A funeral mass was held Feb. 20 at Our Lady of Fatima Church for Maurice R. “Butch” Wernli of North Bergen. He passed away Feb. 13. He was a retired North Bergen firefighter and received a citation from then Public Safety Commissioner Anthony P. Vainieri for reviving a 14 month child, while off duty, when he heard a woman screaming, applied mouth to mouth resuscitation and saved the child. He was the husband of Dawn Wernli; father of Scott Wernli, Steven Wernli and his wife Simone and Cindi Wernli- Kallee and her husband Vinay; brother of Jeanne Douglas, Anita Campion, Joanne Wernli and the late Herbert and Richard; grandfather Chris, Robyn and Lilah. Services arranged by the Vainieri Funeral Home, North Bergen.
