HOBOKEN – Second Ward Councilwoman Beth Mason was charged on Wednesday with six counts of violating campaign finance laws during her 2011 City Council campaign, according to a report on PolitickerNJ. The charges were filed jointly against Mason and her husband Richard, who served as her campaign treasurer in that election.

According to the state Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC), Mason allegedly failed to report expenditures related to in-kind contributions worth thousands of dollars by the state deadline. In all, ELEC alleged that Mason’s campaign failed to report a total of $126,199 on time, with the information submitted anywhere between 98 and 276 days late.

The amounts should have been reported on reports that were due beginning in October 2011 and April 2012, but were not revealed first until July 2012.

Mason, a staunch opponent of Mayor Dawn Zimmer, is one of the top Democratic political donors in the state. A spokesman for Mason did not immediately respond to a request for comment. – Dean DeChiaro

Hopefully this error-ridden story will not go to print in it's current form.

There are (2) complaints- one from 2009 and one from 2011 here:

http://grafixavenger.blogspot.com/2014/03/the-beth-and-ricky-mason-elec.html

The Mason campaigns are charged with 387 "transactions" in total, ELEC fines up to $6,800 AND fines are calculated as transactions PER PERSON.

That brings Beth Mason's ELEC fines up to $2.6 MILLION and Ricky Mason's $0.97 MILLION. The grand total ELEC fines may be up to $14.3 MILLION. Read for yourself- it is all in the complaint and on:

There's a reason why your paper is called The Mason Reporter. This pathetic article that you buried so deeply on your site the link had to sent to me. Sad.

The 2 complaints - not 1 - contain as greenshirt says 19 counts with hundreds of individual violations.

Mason treated deadlines as if they only applied to the "little people."

Given Mason's long history of shrilly casting stones at others she has an awful lot of

"splaining" to do. I look forward to reading the front page Hoboken Reporter story this weekend in which her hypocrisy is exposed and she's asked to answer the "tough" questions that scream to be asked and answered.
