Coming into the “Gold” medal round the (8-0) Wizards were a confident bunch as they took the court to face the (4-5) Knights in a JCC of Bayonne Indoor Soccer Jr. Division showdown. The action started off with a predictable tone as Michael Cordero assisted T. J. Wolf on two rapid fire net jets. Trailing 2 zip but undaunted, the Knights’ bull- dozed back with two goals by Angel Martinez to tie the fray at 2 all. Assisting on the Knights’ rallying burst were team captain Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes and Raquel Belber as the game heated up. After watching their two goal lead disappear, the Wizards struggled until a sliding boot by Declan McCormick reignited the Wizards’ offense making it 3-2, Wizards. The next ten minutes belonged to both team’s defenses as Harsh Easwar (Wizards) and Aaliyana Cifuentes (Knights) ruled the nets while sweepers Josue Belber and Alanis Concepcion ball hawked for the Knights with Kasper Hooks and Michael Cordero holding the fort for the Wizards. After a long scoring drought, the Wizards’ dynamic duo of Wolf and McCormick hit their stride as they teamed up for two quick goals to make it 5-2. The Wizards did tack on one last insurance goal as T. J. Wolf notched his 42nd goal of the season to clinch “Gold” for the Wizards with a 6-2 victory. For the hard driving Knights, their 2014 season concluded with “Silver” Medals and a well deserved ovation from the fans.
