A funeral service was held March 26 at Bethel African Methodist Church, Pelham, Ga. for Ophelia M. Valcarcel of Jersey City. She passed away March 20 at The Pavilions of Forrestal Assisted Living, Princeton. Ophelia graduated from nursing school in 1963. Most of her professional career was dedicated to Jersey City Medical Center until her retirement in 2001. Ophelia’s compassion and dedication to her patients and coworkers was evident throughout the 40 years spent at JCMC, eventually becoming affectionately known as just “Mom”. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Sandra B. Sharp (Anthony) of Roselle; son Allan Valcarcel of Loganville, Ga.; grandson Jordan Sharp; her four grand-daughters Keva Sharp, Olyvia andVictoria Valcarcel, and Amber Hilliard; great aunt Ruth Parker, brother in-law Ben Brown Jr.; nieces Linda James, Barbara Casey, Alicia Goodwin, great nieces Andrea Hulse, Tonya Mendez and Crystal Goodwin, nephews Rashard and Dion Casey, Domingo Castro, David, Fu (Junie) and Ronald Goodwin, and a host of cousins, relatives and special friends. Services arranged by theJackson Funeral Residence, Jersey City.
