JERSEY CITY -- Hudson County Acting Prosecutor Gaetano T. Gregory announced Monday that Darren Talington, age 25, of Jersey City, was shot multiple times and killed early Saturday morning on Grove Street in Jersey City.

On Saturday, April 26, 2014, at approximately 3:45 a.m., Jersey City Police were dispatched to the area of Grove Street and Christopher Columbus Drive in Jersey City on a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found Talington lying on the ground. The victim was transported by ambulance to the Jersey City Medical Center in cardiac arrest and was later pronounced dead at 7:10 a.m.

Homicide detectives believe Talington drove to the A1Deli located at 312 Grove St. to purchase food. While inside the deli, a male customer pushed a female customer. Talington intervened and an argument erupted leading to a fight outside between Talington and the male customer. Another male then approached Talington and began to fire a gun.

According to the Medical Examiner, Talington sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and lower extremities.

The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is currently investigating the shooting with the assistance of the Jersey City Police Department. No arrests have been made yet.
