I am writing in response to Richard DeCosmis’ latest campaign flyer. In this flyer Mr. DeCosmis states that there have not been any improvements on Park Avenue in over 20 years. This statement is incorrect.
Over the past several years, the mayor and the township council worked with local business owners to help improve storefront facades for many of the businesses along Park Avenue. By utilizing a matching grant program offered by Hudson County these business owners were awarded a dollar for every dollar they spent to improve their storefront façade up to $5,000. Over 20 business owners took full advantage of this program and were able to make $10,000 worth of improvements to their storefronts, while only having to spend $5,000. During a difficult economic period this was a tremendous benefit for small businesses.
In addition, the township worked with our federal and state representatives to obtain the necessary funding to purchase and restore our Water Tower, which is one of the world-renowned symbols of excellence for our town. Just south of the Water Tower at 3800 Park Avenue a reading park was created (instead of a proposed 3 story liquor store warehouse) using open space grants.
On 48th Street and Park Avenue where the infamous Park Avenue Hotel once stood, new affordable housing for senior citizens is rising. The Township also obtained funding to build multiple affordable family housing units along Park Avenue. Finally a notorious 45-room boarding house on 46thStreet and Park Avenue was closed by the township and replaced with a 15-unit apartment complex.
The bombardment of ill-informed campaign literature that continues to fill mailboxes does not reflect well on his campaign. He would better serve himself to do some fact checking before lending his name to baseless claims.
Park Ave improvements are being made everyday for the benefits of its residents and the entire community.
This is one more reason to join me on Election Day in voting for Mayor Richard F. Turner (1A), Councilwoman Rosemary J. Lavagnino (1B), Councilman Robert J. Sosa (3B) and myself (2A).
Thank you for your consideration.
