With a single blemish on their record, the (3-1) Penguins no longer take the (1-4) Islanders lightly as they faced off in a JCC of Bayonne Sr. Division floor hockey grudge match. The potent and talented Penguins got the action started with a scoring dart from CeeJay Larino with Marek Mickiewicz on the assist. One minute later, the Islanders countered as Jared Radil bulled in his first goal of the season while Malachi Smith chalked up his league leading 7th assist. Briefly hemmed in at 1 all, the Penguins hit the surge button and pumped in four straight goals as Colin Woods (2 goals), Mackenzie Woods (1 goal, 1 assist), Marek Mickiewicz (1 goal, 1 assist), and Josh Greenbaum (1 assist) inflicted the damage. Trailing 5-1, the Islanders kept pressing and once again hit their mark as John Bautista railed in a scoring strike to cut the Penguins’ lead to 5-2. As the Islanders tried to gain a foothold, the Penguins blasted away as Colin Woods drilled in two more net gems off assists by Mickiewicz and Julian Giron to take a 7-2 advantage. Stifled by the Penguins’ defense and the amazing goal tending effort of James Bajor, the Islanders poured all their energy into scrapping for points and their tenacity finally paid off as the “Radilators” made it 7-3 with Drew Radil assisting Jared Radil on his second goal of the bout. While the Islanders battled, the Penguins’ surgical offense made it 8-3 as Marek Mickiewicz blitzed in his second goal of the game. Never deterred by the scoreboard, the Islanders’ team captain Malachi Smith led his squad up court for another score as Smith turned a pin point pass from Chloe Gregory into a net rocker. Sensing the determination of the Islanders, the Penguins went back on the attack as CeeJay Larino and Marek Mickiewiz tallied two more goals to extend the Penguins’ lead to 10-4. Still undeterred, the pesky and relentless Islanders mustered one last charge as Logan Mazziota turned a save and pinball pass from Jake Peregrin to Natallyah Teixeira into a fastbreak goal for Drew Radil. In the end, the Penguins prevailed with a 10-5 victory, but the Islanders certainly got their attention.
