The James F. Murray School (PS 38) Student Council in Jersey City, NJ chose the March of Dimes as their charity to focus on this school year. With the direction of Vanessa Ali, Director of Charitable Events, the officers and homeroom representatives launched the Change for Babies Penny Wars. The activity took place over the course of three days with grade level clusters competing against each other to earn the most points. The challenge was that while pennies and paper money were positive points, other classes could put silver coins or "negative money" into a homeroom's bucket. At the end of the three days, Ms. Perez and Mrs. Mebarez, the Student Council advisors, worked with representatives of TD Bank in Nutley, NJ to count all of the generous donations. The grand total donated to the March of Dimes was $1,971.75.
