A memorial service was held Aug. 16 at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, Mountainside, for Cheng Yen The, 67. She passed away peacefully in Columbia Presbyterian Hospital on Aug. 7 as a result of injuries sustained in a fall. She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Gerald Hillenbrand, her son Christopher, and five brothers and sisters: Teh Leong, Teh Ming, Kim Chea Hoon, Choy Cheng Hwa, and Choonie Cladek.

Cheng Yen was a graduate of Wellesley College and received her masters degree from Columbia Business School. Upon retiring from a successful career in international banking in Asia and Europe, she passionately pursued a second career in teaching gifted children. Services arranged by the Dooley Funeral Home, Cranford.
