North Bergen police lieutenant arrested for alleged DWI, suspected cocaine possession

EAST RUTHERFORD – Police in East Rutherford arrested a North Bergen police lieutenant on Saturday Aug. 11 for alleged DWI and suspected cocaine possession, according to a police press release.

Local police responding to a report of a man in a vehicle needing assistance arrested Alex Guzman, who they identified as a lieutenant with the North Bergen police.

Officers transported him to police HQ, where they processed him and issued motor vehicle summonses for violations of driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle while in possession of narcotics. Guzman also received a criminal summons for possession of CDS (controlled dangerous substance), a 3rd degree crime.

Guzman was released and was scheduled for an initial court appearance in Hackensack’s Central Judicial Processing Court on Aug. 22.
