COLBERT, RAYMOND F.
Funeral services have been held for Raymond F. Colbert, 95, of West New York. He passed away Aug. 11. Born in Paris, France, Raymond enlisted in the United States Army during World War II (1942 -1945), and functioned as an interpreter during the first United States invasion. During his tour of duty, he had the opportunity to shake hands with the 18th President of the French Republic, Charles de Gaulle. As an occupation after his tour of duty, Raymond became the director for 30 years of a French electronic company in New York City. He started his own organization selling U.S. equipment to France in Europe. Raymond was marred to Marie, and had one son, Michel, who died in the tragedy at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. Marie passed away in 2006. Raymond was a lifelong resident at Tower West on Boulevard East in West New York and was well respected by all of his friends and neighbors. He enjoyed the company of his poodle Gigi. Raymond married Gloria Argueta, who took care of him until his death. Services arranged by the Vainieri Funeral Home, North Bergen.
He is survived by his wife, Dora, his daughter, Valerie Scozzafava and her husband Robert, his son, Bruce and wife, Robin and his five grandchildren: Adam, Nicholas, Rachel, Meryl and Julia. Services arranged by the Leber Funeral Home, Union City.
