A memorial service was held Aug. 12 for Salvatore Betancourt, 85. He passed away June 10, surrounded by his family. Sal was born in Brooklyn to Salvatore and Sylvia Betancourt. ln April of 1952, he married Dora Rodriguez. Together, they raised two children, Valerie and Bruce. Sal was a longtime resident of Weehawken and lived for the last nine years in West New York. He served as a medic in the Korean War and later put his medical knowledge to use while working for UPS in their medical department. After retiring from UPS, he worked as a fire and building inspector for the town of Weehawken and also as a Juvenile Crime Prevention Officer. Sal was a devoted member of The Weehawken Elks Lodge for 44 years. He was an accomplished classical guitarist and also liked to sing and dance and his moves always drew a crowd on the dance floor.
