WNY Post office robbed; clerk locked up
The U.S. Post Office at 60th Street and Park Avenue in West New York was robbed on July 1 at approximately 1 p.m. according to U.S. Postal Inspector Joshua Shandler. A lone suspect, displaying a handgun, kicked the back door of the post office and confronted a clerk. The suspect locked the clerk in a backroom and took an assortment of personal belongings along with some postal property before fleeing the scene. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, medium build, wearing blue jeans and large square designer sunglasses. Anyone with information can contact the USPIS 24 hours a day at (877) 876-2455 or (877) US-MAIL-5. A reward of up to $50,000 is available based upon information provided, which can remain anonymous.
NJ Blood Services needs volunteers
NJ Blood Services, which supplies blood to 60 hospitals throughout the state, is in need of volunteers to work blood drives. The blood mobile volunteer is an integral member of the blood collection team whose task it is to assist donors with registration, perform canteen duties and make appointments for their next donation. Volunteers should have the ability to relate to the public, be able to perform different jobs as needed and have the willingness to follow the rules. Colombian Independence Day to be observed
Mayor Brian P. Stack and the Board of Commissioners have announced that Union City will hold a ceremony commemorating the anniversary of Colombia’s Independence on Friday, July 17 at 12:00 p.m. at International Park, located on the corner of Palisade Avenue and 38th Street. The ceremony will include several invited guest speakers and the raising of the Colombian flag. Members of several local Colombian organizations are expected to attend the ceremony. Everyone in the community is invited to attend.
Neighborhood Block Party
Mayor Brian P. Stack and the Board of Commissioners announced that Union City will hold a Neighborhood Block Party on Tuesday, July 21 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on 39th Street between Hudson and Park Avenues. There will be live music, clowns, a show for kids, free hot dogs and soda, and activities for children. Admission is free and chairs are provided. Everyone is invited.
