SCHWINN OR LOSE -- Someone swiped the mayor's bike in mile-square Hoboken. At least she's bringing back the cross-town bus.

After being involved in several heated exchanges and some angry back-and-forths and last night's City Council meeting, Acting Mayor Dawn Zimmer left City Hall at 1 a.m. Thursday morning to find her bike was stolen from outside the building.

The bike was locked to the bike rack on the Newark Street side of City Hall. When Zimmer left after the long meeting, her bike was gone, according to Daniel Bryan, a city spokesman.

Zimmer was not immediately available for comment, nor where police to confirm whether a report was filed.

When Zimmer took over last month for former Mayor Peter Cammarano, who was on the job only three weeks before his corruption arrest, Zimmer stressed that she would bike to work rather than using a city car, as other mayors did. Hoboken is a mile-square town.

The mayor's seat is up for election this November.

No word on how Zimmer got home. -- TJC
