BAYONNE -- The entire city of Bayonne experienced an interruption in water service this morning from approximately 4:30 a.m until approximately 6:45 a.m. Apparently a 30-inch main on the city’s main aqueduct failed, most likely due to the sub-zero temperatures.

Bayonne Municipal Utilities Authority employees responded to the scene, isolated the break, and restored service. The BMUA Emergency Services Contractor, Joseph Jingoli and Son, Inc. of Lawrenceville, NJ as well as the Authority’s Engineers, Hatch Mott MacDonald of Milburn, NJ are en route to the scene to assess the situation and commence the necessary repairs. The water supply is safe to drink and does not require boiling before use.

For more information, contact the BMUA at 201-339-3200 during normal business hours.-AS
