HOBOKEN -- Dr. Lorraine Cella, outgoing principal of Hoboken High School, said she was met at the door of the school and escorted from the building today, following the school board's hiring of her interim replacement on Tuesday.

Sources said last week that Interim Superintendent Peter Carter removed Cella's hard drive from her computer over the snow holiday, although it was unclear what sort of threat Cella -- a renowned educator with a clean record -- could pose to the district.

Cella, who many parents admired and praised, resigned her seat recently following what she thought was unfair treatment from Carter.

Sources claimed Carter gave Cella an unsatisfactory review without ever visiting her office, and was intent on pushing Cella out of her position before she reached her tenure year, next year.

When someone works for you for a long time, you don't act all suspicious of them and completely sever ties without reason. She could have had a few hours to finish what she was doing first. It's not like she was fired for insubordination. She deserved a little respect IMHO.

CD,

Yes, I did and I also read degeorgi comments here and I see nothing to warrant all the political BS being thrown around regarding Dr. Cella's last day of work in Hoboken.

I find nothing odd in stopping an employee's e-mail access etc... on their last day when they quit to take another job. I find it odd that some do.

The more facts we learn the more I am certain this was a good move.

Westy...

Did you read the rest of the Hoboken Now article? It sounds like she didn't have a very good day.

They shut her out of her email? Not to mention other things? What was the rush really?

Don't be so defensive let's find out more.

Since no one cares to tell us what really happened, here is what I found out:

Cella was earning a huge salary: > $134,612 for teaching ZERO classes. Moreover, her high school lost 13 percentage of students within the past few years!

The 'Student Performance Indicators' show that the scores went significantly down under Cella's leadership: Illiteracy (or call it partial proficiency in language, arts and literacy) increased from 19% to 30% and partial math proficiency declined by 13%.

Look for yourself to learn about Cella's 'performance':

Given the above data, I am not so sure that Mr. Carter abused her as suggested by a few.

THE STORY IS NOT TRUE !

Hoboken Now asked Dr. Cella and she said it DID NOT HAPPEN. Friday was the last day before she starts her new job in Plainfield on Tuesday. So why the lies and hate ?

It is pretty much expected in Hoboken that those people who were replaced try to smear everyone they can regardless of the truth.

The system was broke and the people who made money breaking are putting together a campaign of lies and hate.

The HBOE is headed in the right direction.

Shame on Carter and his henchman. Dr. Cella has always acted in a professional and civil manner. THAT is why you have not heard about the way Carter has spoken and acted toward her until now. Independent people around the district have overheard bits of the bullying and Carter's complete and utter disrespect. Carter makes it sound as if Dr. Cella quit the position - but she was told that the Board would not be renewing her contract and that she needed to find employment elsewhere. Imagine - a Columbia University Phd. from outside the district replaced by a principal pal of Carter's from IRVINGTON! Is that a reflection of what KidsFirst thinks of our children? My own speculation is that Carter had Cella ordered out of the building to disgrace her because he was angry the BOE didn't give the principalship to the crony he originally wanted.

I am not surprised, given the things I have heard about Mr. Carter. This same tactic was used many years ago when a very well-respected educational professional was believed to have supported a mayoral candidate that was not in favor with then mayor. It appears that the same tactic still holds true today. I wish Dr. Cella all the best, her resignation is to her advantage. What a disgrace!

Hoboken Now has changed their story and are now saying that Dr. Cella was NOT escorted to the door as was first reported.

Odd how these stories get twisted around.

We all wish Dr. Cella the best as he starts he new job in Plainfield on Tuesday.

ReformerusG, you are condoning actions on the part of the school administration that are at best, unnecessary. If Dr. Cella's resignation was indeed intitiated by her because she had a better offer job offer, what made her so dangerous?

Why push out a professional, regardless of whether or not her performance was perceived to be good, in such a rushed manner? Her replacement was named Tuesday and the school was closed for 2 days after that. Why couldn't Dr. Cella be allowed to clean out her office and leave at the end of the day or when she had finished cleaning out her office? Why is Carter in such a hurry to give yet another job to one of his friends?

Lorainne Cella had given notice that she would be leaving on or before March 15th. With the Board passing approval for the interim Principal to come in last Tuesday this set the stage for her earlier then scheduled departure.

The Hudson Reporter with all due rspect is only giving one side of this story, hers! If the Hoboken BOE or the Interim Super were to publically comment on the reasons that were really behind this it could be a breach of confidentially on their behalf depending on what was stated.

Try to keep this in mind that Dr. Cella has a better job lined up and perhaps wasn't promised tenure but the seperation was intiated by her all the same.

What is going on here?? Can anyone from the board tell us? Carrie? Maureen?!
