BAYONNE -- Incumbent Bayonne Mayor Mark A. Smith and his slate of five City Council members were sworn in on July 1, kicking off what many see as a whole new era of Bayonne leadership at a ceremony held at Bayonne High School.

With the exception of Councilman-at-Large Terrence Ruane, none of the other four Smith allies have served on the City Council before.

Taking their oaths of office along with Smith were incumbent Ruane, Councilwoman-at-large Debra Czerwienski, 1st Ward Councilwoman Agnes Gillespie, 2nd Ward Councilman Joseph Hurley, and 3rd Ward Councilman Raymond Greaves.

Ruane was named City Council President.
