HOBOKEN -- Parents and local environmental activists met Thursday night in Hoboken City Hall to discuss a potential plan to make $300,000 or more in upgrades to playground equipment and other parts of Church Square Park. The plan was proposed by a parents’ group called “Project Play” that has already raised $25,000 for the cause.

At the meeting, Olivia Moran, 5, of Hoboken (in photo), complained about concrete under the swings. Parents said some of the playground equipment is unsafe. Dan Tumpson, a local park activist, said he wanted to make sure that park improvements do not alter the enjoyment of the green, open space in a historic area of town.

Zabrina Stoffel of Project Play showed off colorful renderings of potential park improvements, designs that came from one of five designers the group asked for proposals.
