HUDSON COUNTY AND BEYOND -- The New York metropolitan region today remains caught between a heat wave from the west and the effects of Hurricane Earl from the east. Although a Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Hudson County the hurricane, now a Category 2, is expected to pass 150 miles east of Montauk on the eastern tip of Long island and land fall in southern New England, according to various sources.
The local forecast for today and tonight calls for a 50 percent chance of showers and cloudy skies with high temperatures near 85. As Hurricane Earl enters the Middle Atlantic region later today expect light winds from the east between 15 and 18 mph. New rainfall amounts may be less than a tenth of an inch except during possible thunder showers.
